After serving a one-year clerkship with The Honorable James R. Cavanaugh (Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County), Tom has engaged in private practice with four law firms. He has extensive defense litigation experience in both State and Federal Courts with practice concentration in the areas of general civil defense (including general liability, automobile/motor vehicle/trucking and premises liability); products liability; construction litigation; employment litigation; school district and municipal liability defense; environmental and toxic torts litigation; and other complex civil litigation. He has served as coordinating regional, state and local counsel in a variety of complex broad-based defenses, some class action and other corporate litigation matters.
Tom has tried hundreds of cases through to conclusion in State and Federal Courts; has served as a settlement master and judge pro tem in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County and has also served as a federal mediator in the U.S.D.C. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Tom is presently a member of the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, the Pennsylvania Defense Institute (PDI), and Defense Research Institute (DRI). He is an active member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), most recently serving as past President of the ABOTA Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter and past Co-Chair of the ABOTA National 7th Amendment Jury Summits (2005-2007). He is also active within the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) as a Board of Director, including service as a past Board of Directior, and received a special appointment to serve as the IADC’s Delegate to the American Civil Trial Bar Roundtable.
He has been named a “Pennsylvania Super Lawyer” every year since 2005 by Law and Politics Magazine (published in Philadelphia Magazine).
Tom has also established an active mediation and arbitration services practice.
